TRUE BLOOD Season 4: "She's Not There" Review

"True Blood" returns for it's fourth season with it's first episode, "She's Not There". When last we left the Bon Temps gang, Sookie had been transported off to "fairy" land, Tara had left town, and Bill and Eric had been banished from the Stackhouse residence forever. So how long would it take for season 4 to resolve all of these unresolved issues? Well not very long apparently. It seems that season 4 will move pretty quickly, as episode one really fasttracks a lot of segments which in most cable series, would've been long and drawn out. For example...Sookie being whisked away to fairy land. Most shows would've made this a 5 or 6 episode ark. Taking half of the season to resolve. But episode one of "True Blood"s fourth season not only manages to reunite Sookie with a long-lost relative in episode one.
|
But it also has her make a daring (and really frikkin weird considering how things turn out in the magical kingdom)...escape from fairy land, with her long-lost relative in tow. However, the reunion doesn't last very long. As thanks to this relative having eaten and partaken of the light-fruit...they cannot survive outside of the magic realm for very long. Thus...they go "poof". And Sookie is left alone yet again. First off, the incident in the "other realm" is pretty damn funny. Seems the "fairies", are not as innocent and pure as they were portrayed in season 3. In fact, they have more in common with the vampires! However, we learn that there apparently is a civil war brewing in fairy land, where it's one group of fairies, versus the malicious bunch of fairies. Thus, they're the ones who help Sookie escape.
So have we seen the last of the fairies? Most likely not. Considering there was some talk at the beginning of episode 1 of season 4, about the human world and their world bleeding into one another. So I'm pretty sure because of that, and also because Sookie is half fairy...that the fairies will be back at some point with a vengeance. Meanwhile, Jason is now a Bon Temps cop, and actually seems more competent than Andy these days. Andy might turn to the dark side this season. As it seems that he cannot function without "V". As shown in a scene where he roughs-up Lafayette. I think it would could to see an evil Andy Belefleur at some point in season 4. Jason however it seems this season, will once again be done in by a lack of common sense.
He still cannot find Crystal, and has now become the guardian of the Hot Shot white trash kids. Not by choice, but apparently he feels sorry for these kids. Being poor and all. Although we learn later on in episode 4, that will ultimately be his undoing. On the Sam front, it looks like Sam might find inner-peace this season. As he's apparently buried the hatchet with Tommy, who we learn was just shot in the leg. And now walks around with a splint on his leg. Sam has also found his way into a shape-shifter support group. Wher ehe can be amongst his own "kind". And is apparently also taking anger management classes. So will this all be enough to keep Sam together this season? Or will be break down again in the worst way?

Tara, who drove out of twon at the end of season 3...is apparently doing the Wolverine thing now. Cage fighting for money. This is a funny moment in episode 1, because if you remember...Rogue and Wolverine in "X-MEN" first met at a cage fight. And now Anna Paquin, who played Rogue, is on this show "True Blood", and Tara...her best friend, is cage fighting women for money in New Orleans. Go figure. Anyways, Tara seems to have her anger under control now, and has apparently crossed over to the other side sexually. Not sure how long this will last. As this is Tara we're talking about here after all. She could be in a totally new area by next week! Bill and Eric meanwhile are still pursuing Sookie, who upon returning to Bon Temps, learns she's been gone for a whole year. And Eric has bought her house! |
Thus, he can come in whenever he wants. Since he owns the place. Funny twist here, which should throw some more fireworks into the Bill/Eric/Sookie triangle. Speaking of Bill, Bill apparently is now the new King, and him and Eric are summoned by their superiors to wage an anti -- anti-vampire campaign. To clean up the pulic relations mess Russell Edgington left last season. This should make season 4 very interesting, as apparently Bill and Eric cannot kill humans any longer as they are now in the business of spin doctoring the vampire population's image
Lafayette meanwhile and Jesus have apparently found their way into a witches coven. Which is where we get our first look at Fiona Shaw, a powerful witch who is supposed to be season 4's main baddie at some point. She seems odd and weird now, but as season 4 progresses, I'm sure we'll learn more about her evil ways. And for those who are wondering about Arlene and the baby and Terry...yes, Arlene is still worried about her baby turning out like his serial-killer dad Renee. And in a strange twist of fate, she walks in on a scene involving some dolls, with the baby, that might or might not confirm her suspicions. So that's pretty much a recap of episode 1. If you thought this was fun, hang on...because we've got about 10 more episodes to go!
