TRUE BLOOD Season 4: "You Smell Like Dinner" Review

"You Smell Like Dinner" is the second episode of "True Blood"s fourth season. Which is currently in swing. This episode is pretty intense because there's a lot of conflict. Whereas episode 1 was more about introducing some of the new characters, and catching up with the old ones. But it seems that things have gotten back to normal in Bon Temps. Eric still owns Sookie's house, as shown in ep #1. And certainly makes his presence known there in episode 2. Once again, entering her house uninvited and flirt/stalking her. He also plays a few jdei mind tricks on her also. Just to rub it in that he owns the place. Not sure where this whole thing is gonna lead. As Bill at some point in the episode requests Eric sell the house back to Sookie or sell it to him. Eric however declines both offers. |
It would seem that in this season. Bill and Eric are gonna have a major confrontation that will probably involve Sookie. Obviously, Bill is more concerned about other things at this point. For example, the new coven of witches in town, who we learn in episode 2 are really necromancers. Or atleast...their leader played by Fiona Shaw is. And then there's that small matter of the woman Bill has had to infiltrate the necromancers inner circle. A situation which takes a turn for the "scandalous" in episode 2. Won't spoil that here, but lets just say that her and Bill's relationship isn't just about business. But once Bill gets all of this other stuff under control, I am pretty sure he is gonna once again pursue Sookie. And the whole Eric-owning-her-house thing is gonna put a big crimp into that plan for sure.
I think it's interesting that we're seeing more of Pam this season. I kind of view her in a positive light now. She still has her bitchy moments. After all, she's a vampire. But the character is certainly being allowed to grow this season. And it will be interesting to see what direction she goes in as season 4 comes to a close. Especially considering Eric's seeming obsession with Sookie. Should it go too far, I am sure Pam won't be pleased. And the question is...what will she do?
And will it be to Eric or Sookie? Things on the Sam front meanwhile are getting a lot more interesting. Seems he's got a new girlfriend, straight from his new "shifter support group". But because this is Sam we're talking about here, this woman has some skeleton's in her closet. Which she lets Sam know in a subtle, non-specific kind of way. So waiting and watching to see what these skeletons turn out to be, will be key in season 4.

But Sam's issues with Tommy aren't over yet. As Sam finds out something about the night Tommy was shot. But this whole conflict leads to an interesting turn of events, in the relationship between Sam and Tommy. It'll be interesting to see where this all leads. Tara returns to Bon Temps though. Something which I thought wouldn't happen until late in season 4. But because she learns Sookie is back in town, she heads over to see her. Tara seems happy two episodes in, but later in episode 2...her happiness almost turns to tragedy when she accompanies Lafayette to his latest "coven gathering", and an uninvited guest shows up and starts making threats/demands from the coven. But this guest's encounter with the coven gets very interesting much later, and has some comical consequences afterwards. Episode 2 does go into small detail about Bill's past, and how he became King of Bon Temps. It also finally explains why we won't be seeing Evan Rachel Wood returning as Queen Sophie Anne anytime soon. |
But about Bill's path to becoming King, and it's ties to the current media blitz by the vampires in town appear "nice" to the human population of Bon Temps, it's an intriguing little side story opening up here. And one has to wondr where it'll eventually lead to in season 4. Hoyt and Jessica meanwhile seem to be still having their own "issues". I personally am getting sort of annoyed with their relationship. As it's feeling very sitcom'ish now. Maybe Hoyt and Jessica should've been the ones to break up and not Bill and Sookie? It seems like every week Hoyt and Jessica have a new problem. Jason meanwhile has landed in bigger trouble now than he was in, in episode 1.
Episode 2 brings about the return of Crystal, but with some surprising news. News that is most of all very surprising to Jason. I don't think Jason will die this season, but it certainly seems like the old Jason Stackhouse will be a distant memory. Because in the holding pattern the character is in now, it's looking like he's going to pay a severe price for his kind-heartedness. Which in Jason's case, also doubles as blind stupidity in it's own way. Episode 2 was a blast, and Episode 3 is going to make things even more interesting. As it will be the first time this season that Alcide makes an appearance! And judging by the previews, it seems that Alcide will be another complicated cog, thrown into the already ultra-complicated Bill/Sookie/Eric triangle.
