TRUE BLOOD Season 4: "Me And The Devil" Review
"True Blood" Season 4, Episode 5:"Me And The Devil", has many intriguing plot twists. Bill, after learning of his family lineage connection to Portia, manages to shue her away with his vampire abilities. I think this season has a lot left to do, which is why the writers just decided to have Bill glamour Portia into fearing him. Instead of making the whole process a long drawn out one. I would've thought they might've made this story arc a long one. Throwing more of a wrench into the Bill/Sookie relationship. After all, she seems to be pre-occupied with Eric now. So why couldn't Bill have Portia? Atleast for a little bit longer? Incest in real life is extremely gross. But this is "True Blood"! I'm surprised they didn't actually "go there", with the Bill/Portia relationship.

Of who's creepiness was further heightened by the fact that Portia, despite learning of Bill's blood-ties to her, still didn't mind being with him in "that way". But then again, Portia was beginning to become a bit of an annoying character so I guess I'd give the thumbs up to her being gone from the show for good? It would seem her character is done now. Most likely to make way for Alcide's new storyline. Alcide is finally breaking away from being Sookie's cry-pillow. And now has his own issues. A werewolf packmaster pops up at his door. The guy, who looks like a biker crossed with a rockabilly, isn't none too pleased that Alcide hasn't registered with the local wolf pack. Him and Alcide have a staredown, and exchange some words before he leaves without incident. I think this new story arc could be good for the Alcide character. |
If it's handled correctly. I thought in season 3, Alcide wasn't explored enough. And I think it kind of sucks for his character that he is now stuck with a supposedly reformed Debbie Pelt. You can just feel that eventually Debbie will go bad again, and Alcide will end up paying for it in the end. Especially now that this new packmaster has showed up. This guy on the outside looks like bad news. But "True Blood" is a ground-breaking show so maybe...this guy will turn out to be friend instead of foe. But I wouldn't hold my breath. It honestly seems like this guy is just as bad, if not worse than season 3's pack leader. Marnie meanwhile is captured and taken prisoner by Bill after he learns of what she has done to Eric. But again, we of course know by now that when Marnie casts one of her spells, she is under possession from a dead witch from the old Spanish Inquisition days.
Personally though, I am getting a bit tired of the hide and go wicca game being played by the writers with Marnie and this long dead witch. I hope soon, Marnie is taken over by the witch, and just starts owning vampires all over the place. And please get rid of Hoyt and Crystal while she's at it. Two of the most annoying characters ever! But I doubt that will happen (the total possession thing), considering they are most likely saving "Termi-Marnie" for the final two or three episodes of the fourth season. Similar to how they built up MaryAnne in season 2 all the way until the big ceremony at the end of the final episode. Which resulted in her eventual death at the hands or horn, of Sam.
But I really wanna see Marnie vaporize a few people already. Since that has been teased all season now. But this is only episode 5 so I guess we have to wait atleast 2 more episodes before that even comes close to happening. Pam meanwhile continues to ROT (one of this season's coolest make-up jobs if I do say so msyelf). And has now taken to wearing a veil over her face. As it continues to disintegrate right before her eyes. Thanks to Marnie's latest spell. Unfortunately, Bill's glamouring of a captured Marnie yields no results to undo her spell, or the spell she cast on Eric. Which has caused him to lose his memory and entire identity. I Pam first has a meeting with Bill and other vampire leaders to plot to kill Marnie, but because Bill is "King" now, and is under strict orders from the Vampire League, "no dead humans orders"...he manages to tie up their wrath for the time being. But by episode's end, Bill gets some surprising news of his own. That he has to decide how or how not to react to violently.

What's happening with Pam is interesting though. I don't think she'll be killed off this season. But the possibility of her rotting away to death by season's end is an interesting prospect. Especially if Eric gets his memory back. What will he do without her? How will he cope? And who will incur his wrath for all of this? Tara? Lafayette? Jesus? Speaking of those three...Tara was put into a position in this ep where she finally had to explain her true identity to her new lady friend, back in Baton Rouge. And as for Lafayette and Jesus, they took a little trip to Mexico where Jesus hoped his father, who it was established back in season 3 is "evil", or "sort of"...would give them some sort of protection against Eric and Pam. And the vampires in general. Will they get it? Will it work? All questions left hanging by episode 5's end. |
Episode 5's downside though, and this is starting to become a habit now....is Jason Stackhouse. Who now has gone from being the captive of Crystal and her redneck clan, to having strange dreams about Jessica and Hoyt. Honestly, these parts of episode 5 may have been funny to some. But to me, they were just stupid and worthless. I think the writers know people like the Jessica character. So any time she's involved in a scene, anyone attached to her has to be dumped into that scene as well. This...is very annoying. As Hoyt and Jason have not been up to par this season. I liked Hoyt better when he was fighting with his mom. And I liked Jason better when he just worked construction and had flings with random women.
Dear writers:Please take these two back to the respective storylines where you found them. Thank you. Sam's getting more and more interesting though. Which is something I am happy to say. Now that Tommy has killed his crazy redneck parents, it was up to Sam to aid Tommy in dumping their bodies out of sight. So Tommy wouldn't go to jail for double homicide. After a slight hiccup involving Andy Belefleur, they both manage to get rid of the corpses. But a new problem has arisen. As it seems Tommy is set to come into some sort of new powers now that he, being a shifter...has killed both his parents. So half way into season 4, we now have a new supernatural story arc to watch unfold. Atleast this will make Tommy interesting, finally, and take him from a whiny kid to possibly something darker? Lastly, Arlene and Terry are still dealing with their ghost. And tragedy strikes once they go to bed. This after having Tara's mother and her new preacher boyfriend bless the house. I am still intrigued by this ghost/angry spirit though, and it's gonna be interesting to see where this particular story arc goes as season 4 moves forward.
