[Throwing Stones (Season 1)]
Plot:When a group of high schoolers have to attend Saturday School. They must then work together to overcome their differences in order to survive when some of the students end up mysteriously disappearing.
Cast:Lindsay Siedel, Cherami Leigh, Rebekah Kennedy, Kayla Carlyle, Chad Cox, Lynn Andrews.

My Thoughts:An interesting new breed of horror-webseries.

Review:"Throwing Stones", from filmmaker Bart Van Bemmel...was originally set up to possibly be a feature film. But as is the story with Hollywood most of the time...things change. The film was halted, and Van Bemmel was forced to turn the script into a webseries instead. But in the end, it all worked out for the best. Atleast I think so. "Throwing Stones" is an interesting new breed of horror web-series.

It really works in episodes, and doesn't give you too much to go on in each episode. Purposely, so it can keep you coming back for every episode afterwards. Just so it can keep you coming back for the next. You get the picture. It really uses the term "cliffhanger"...to the best of it's abilities. It also utilizes some good plot points and writing very well. The series follows a group of teens at a suburban high school, who are all seemingly major cogs in the "Broken Window Theory".

A theory which boasts that if one thing is left broken or unfixed...it will then spawn a list of other issues and problems. As in a broken window will set a precedent where the students will destroy other property, and not try as hard, and misbehave because the broken window...sets a tone for all of this to be acceptable. These kids aren't REALLY BAD kids. But for suburban place of learning...they'd definitely be called problematic.

So an unseen assailant takes it upon themselves to try and teach these kids a lesson. A deadly one, by picking them off one by one. Slasher movie style. Although the series rather hints at this. Instead of going heavy on the blood and gore like a feature film would. It more suggests that someone is targeting these kids...and their behavior is the catalyst for this intrusion.

Thus, the series teases the identity of this person for the whole of season 1, without giving us much to go on identity wise. But it does set up some interesting possibilities as to who the killer could be. The cast of the webseries is made up of young up and comers mostly. A few which have done indie horror pictures before. But not really widely seen ones.

So this web-series would be a good piece to add to all of their resumes so to speak. And also depending on if there's a second season or not. Which I hope there is. Most of the story is told in flashbacks. Putting together the events of the past, so they can connect to the events of the present. And furthermore explain why the current events are occuring.

Season 1 leaves a lot unanswered and unexplained. So a second season would certainly not be taxed for story or plot arcs. This series operates more as a mystery/horror rather than a true horror web-series. It has strong slasher elements. But also starts with the base of a strong mystery, and then builds on it further with each new episode. The season 1 finale puts a lot on the table, and leaves much to be desired. As in more time to reveal more of what is happening, and what could happen.

But at the same time, considering how season 1 concludes...it would certainly make a stronger case for a second season viable. It'll be interesting to see where things go from here. But "Throwing Stones" is definitely a web-series worth checking out. With eight episodes making up season 1, with each ep clocking in at under 5 minutes...it certainly wouldn't take up too much time to give the entire first season a whirl whenever you get the opportunity.



Overall Season 1 Rating:Three and a half stars.
