EXCLUSIVE:Salva talks "Rosewood Lane", "Jeepers 3" this year?
We recently got a chance to chat with filmmaker Victor Salva about his upcoming horror/thriller pic Rosewood Lane...which is set to begin shooting this year. The movie stars Rose Mcgowan as a radio psychologist who upon her return to her childhood home...is terrorized by an evil delivery boy who first targeted her father. While we weren't able to get all of the juicy tidbits on the film we wanted, we did manage to pry some vital info from Victor about the movie, which will most likely see a release in 2012. We asked Victor how strong the films horror elements would be, and what past genre films he would compare "Rosewood Lane" to.
"I call it many different things when trying to describe exactly what ROSEWOOD LANE will be," he told us. "The nightmare next door is a good way to describe it. Suburban nightmares, may that's a sub-genre I made up, but that is what I would call this new chiller." Victor then went on to mention some big horror classics, which he sees "Rosewood Lane" as being "in the vein of." "It hearkens back to some of my favorite "nightmare next door" films: Bob Clark's BLACK CHRISTMAS and John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN," he tells HM&S. "Each of these films not only made you jump and scream and grab the person next to you (hopefully your date and not someone else's)-- but they had true moments of creepiness that literally gave you chills and goose bumps, all the while building and leading to even greater horror and suspense. I like to say that ROSEWOOD LANE is meant to be the kind of uniquely unnerving story that put the terror right in your own neighborhood."

So just how evil and villainous will the films aforementioned delivery boy be? Or how evil can we "expect" him to be? "Expectation is just the right word. I don't want you to know what to expect him to be," he says. "Or how scary. Or how anything really. Not knowing or the unknown, is I think, the key to all terror and suspense. I want you to wonder and not know. It's just like The Creeper in the Jeepers films." Victor then goes on to add..."I like it in the sense that a lot of its scariness and horror comes from not having explained exactly what it is, or where it's from or what it's up to. I can tell you this about the paperboy in ROSEWOOD LANE: he will be like no other paperboy you have ever had or seen." |
Will a teaser trailer be forthcoming soon or no? Victor unfortunately couldn't give us a bonafide answer on that one, telling HM&S..."I would have to let someone in the film's marketing division answer that one." But one question he could give us an answer to was, the current status on the long-awaited Jeepers Creepers 3:Cathedral!

Salva told us that not only has MGM very much recovered from their recent financial woes, but that he sees 2011 as the year that what he calls "Jeepers Threepers"...might actually get made! "MGM is not only back on it's feet, it's under the new auspices of a great guy named Roger Birnbaum who produced my film POWDER," he says. "But even if MGM doesn't want to help spread the Creeper's wings a third time: MGM doesn't own the Jeepers franchise, Francis Coppola's Zoetrope owns it. And I think this might actually be the year the third and final Jeepers film gets made." |
Salva continues..."What we lovingly refer to as Jeepers Threepers has lots of goodies for the Jeepers fans, and they have been so loyal -- and so patient! I am told, that according to horror websites JEEPERS CREEPERS III is the most requested sequel of any horror franchise today. And a friend just sent me a recent poll at WorstReviews where 4000 subscribers were asked to vote for their scariest movie monster of all time. The Creeper ranked at number four. Even the Creeper couldn't resist that kind of flattery could he?" Looks like we might see The Creeper return sometime this year guys!
