[Quarantine 2:Terminal]
Plot:In QUARANTINE, an apartment building in Los Angeles was quarantined by the CDC (Center for Disease Control), trapping the frightened residents inside as a deadly mutant virus turned the residents into rabid killers. QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL picks up later that night at LAX, as passengers board a flight to Nashville. When a passenger becomes violently ill with a mysterious rabies-like virus, the plane makes an emergency landing at a large metropolitan airport. Jenny (Mercedes Masohn, CBS's "Three Rivers"), a heroic yet inexperienced flight attendant, takes charge of the safety of her passengers. Relieved when a swarm of heavily equipped emergency vehicles, police units and the CDC arrive, Jenny and the passengers soon discover that they have been quarantined and are now trapped. Desperate to escape, Jenny enlists the help of one of the surviving passengers, a kindergarten teacher, Henry (Josh Cooke, A Fork In The Road, I Love you Man), to devise a plan to survive.

Cast:Mercedes Masohn, Josh Cooke, George Back, Andrew Benator, Jason Benjamin, Bre Blair, Lynn Cole, Michael L. Covington, Julie Gribble, Phillip DeVona, Julie Gribble, Keith Allen Hayes, Roger Herrera, Tyler Kunkle, Sandra Ellis Lafferty, Mattie Liptak.

My Thoughts:Beats "Quarantine" in some ways.

Review:"Quarantine 2:Terminal" is the Unrequited sequel to "Quarantine", the remake of "REC" which came out back in 2008. Picking up where "Quarantine" left off, the film follows a passenger plane, which soon becomes plagued by the deadly virus seen in the first film, when a man is bitten by a rat, and soon suffers the effects. He then goes on to bite and attack others, and soon...the plane is E-vac'd. But the infection still begins to spread amongst the planes now-no-longer-aboard passengers. After they are trapped inside the terminal by those pesky CDC guys again.

Who "wrap up" the area like usual. Now...they pretty much are stuck in a scenario where they're waiting to die. Unlike "Quarantine", which had a sort of annoying opening, "Quarantine 2:Terminal" opens on a more interesting note. Our two main leads this time are two female flight attendants, one of which is engaged. The tone and look of the movie is certainly in line with "Quarantine" though. Filmmaker John Pogue, taking over the reigns from "Quarantine" director John Eric Dowdle, makes sure to give the movie a video-camera kind of feel. And early on, to really make itself into a bonafide sequel...the movie references the first films L.A. apartment building outbreak.

The incident is then referenced a few more times throughout the picture. Back onto the topic of the films exterior though, Pogue also at the same time, makes sure to blend the films video-cam tones...with a little bit of urban grit and shaded backdrops. Adds to the effect more considering this is a movie where people slowly become ravign lunatics, and pop out of dark places and spaces to quickly go on the attack. And trust me, there is a lot of that here in "Terminal". In fact, it does a better job of keeping the suspense than "Quarantine" did. "Quarantine" moved way too slow early on. It didn't get good until maybe the final 25.

"Terminal" though quickly jumps into the action. At about the 30 minute mark, all hell has pretty much already broken loose. The acting in the film is decent, considering the first movie had Jay Hernandez, Jonathan Schaech, and Jennifer Carpenter as it's main stars. This movie doesn't have that level of indie talent, but considering it's stepping down from that trio, and not high A-list talent like a Tom Cruise or Will Smith, mega-stars who usually get tapped to carry remakes these days..."Terminal" works well with what it has. Besides, the stars of the film are really the raving infected, who provided enough spooks and scares to make the 86 minutes worth while. The film though breaks free from the white-bread inner-workings of "Quarantine". We get a more mixed bag of characters here.

A black female who doesn't embody the usual stereotypes, two female leads which all three are rare. And then there's a kid named George who rises above being the A-typical annoying/whiny bratty horror flick kid. A wheelchair-bound man, and an old woman with a cat shore up the obligatory character side of things. And then there's a teacher who apparently brought some hamsters on board the plane for his class. A lone airplane luggage/baggage attendant also gets roped into the whole mess once the passengers return to the terminal, and have to abandon the plane.

All of the characters are interesting in their own right, but one of them is not who they seem. And while the evident twist would be that this person is working for one side, that turns out to not be the case at all. Not going to spoil anything here in the review, but this twist makes for a very intriguing third act. The attack scenes are not as heavily graphic and gross as they were in ''Quarantine". But they're still effective, and nicely done. As they're well placed and come at times/moments you wouldn't expect them to.

I also think having a film where a group of people are trapped with virally infected individuals inside of an airplane terminal works considering it's something new, and fresh. A never been done before sort of thing. Maybe there has or hasn't been...but I don't recall a horror movie where people in danger were all holed up inside of an airplane terminal. The films setting really provided for a lot of those key moments where the infected lunge out of the darkness, and those fun chase sequences where characters are fleeing down access stairs, tunnels, etc.

If this film were to have a glaring weakness though, it would be that it had to throw in that predictable moment where the CDC guys in hazmat gear storm the terminal, and start barking orders to those still alive and not infected. This scene really didn't seem to add much to the film considering it just resulted in the CDC guys ebign shot dead by officers outside, and someone else getting infected thanks to the distraction of the whole sceario.

But the movie totally is not hampered by that small little annoyance, and ends on a terrific note. With a finale that is powerful, a bit sad, and very intense. "Quarantine:Terminal" is a sequel that matches "Quarantine" '08 in many ways, and in many others...surpasses it surprisingly. It's definitely worth the price of admission.

Positives:Good suspense and thrills elements in the movie. Decent acting, good moments of blood and gore, a great finale, and an overall high level of entertainment value. Very rarely if ever boring. A cool twist also involving one of the films main characters, and their "secret identity".

Negatives:Again, a small annoyance was the scene with the CDC guys entering the building. I didn't think it added anything to the film. But not a huge Negative in my eyes. More of a nit-picky one if anything.

Overall:Three and a half out of four stars.
