Plot:Once upon a time...Angie, an aging star reluctantly goes on one last shoot for a seedy Producer, on location, in an enchanting old cabin deep in the shadowy forest. While on the shoot the cast and crew encounter Henry, and his little sweet sister Patti, two strange and mysterious children who seem to live in the woods. A violent attack on the second evening of shooting sends Angie and the rest of the crew into a frighten frenzy. They lock themselves into their secluded cabin and find themselves trapped and surrounded by an unknown assailant. Could these two children be responsible for these vicious attacks?
After witnessing a horrible slaying, Billy, the handsome lead, takes Patti hostage, as a means of gaining leverage against the unknown killer. This proves to be the fatal mistake as, one by one, the crew is horrifically slaughtered until only Patti, Angie, and Henry remain, resulting in a chilling final showdown between the three that ends in a terrifying conclusion. In this fairy tale of terror, the classic fable of, HANSEL & GRETEL, is re-imagined into a visual enchantment of good and evil...eat the candy, if you dare.

Review:"Bread Crumbs" is slasher movie meets fairytale. A group of people who are doing a shoot for a porno film, find a cabin deep in the woods...which would be a perfect "on-location-location" to shoot their X-rated flick. But the film crew soon come under attack from two kids. A young girl, and a guy who seems to be slightly older than she is.
But both are still teenagers. From here, the kids plot, scheme, and devise to pick off the film crew members one by one. "Bread Crumbs" biggest strength is that it sets up an intriguing base for a slasher film. It's biggest failure however, is it wastes that base. By leaving story gaps big enough to drive a tanker truck through. So is this movies greatest dilemma. Granted, I always like to give a movie a chance. Any movie really.
Especially horror. But "Bread Crumbs" lines up some annoying characters, and then gives you a story that lacks totla cohesion. But oddly enough, or...as odd as it's story. The movie does manage to pull together some intriguing questions, possibilities, and story tie-in's around the finale of it's 90 minute run. Which to me, gains the film some points. But that doesn't really excuse the mess that is everything in between. Let me explain. For starters...the girl/boy duo are supposed to be a twisted/backwards/horror movie version of Hansel and Gretel. The fairytale duo.
But the reason why this doesn't work for the film, is because the male half of the duo does all of the killing. The younger female half lures people to him pretty much. But the boy is nothing more than a mentally-challenged ghoul really. And thus why this does not work in the context of the movie, is because it's not viable that a film crew could not take this guy down. Instead...he ends up slaughtering most of the crew, before someone finally decides to take a stand by kidnapping his partner-in-crime...and trying to set up an exchange scenario where the survivors and what's left of the crew, exchange her for their safe exit of the woods.
Of course, because these characters are total chicken****s, and not very bright...that plan falls apart in about five minutes. And thus, we're back to the hacking/slashing/chasing mechanism again. Sure, I don't have a problem with that little wrinkle in the movies design, but my real issue is how cheaply the writers treat the characters. These have to be some of the dumbest characters ever written. And by the way, since this was a porn movie shoot...where was the huge bouncer guy?
Don't all porn stars usually travel with that huge bodyguard/security guy who keeps sleazy men from oogling their goodies? You'd think he be around for a shoot deep in the spooky old woods. Especially since it's a horror movie, and would have set up a far more interesting scenario that a bunch of random people cowering in a cabin waiting to die. The movie also follows the A-typical slasher film blueprint. Which is basically waiting until it's too late to make any critical moves. The two demonic children stalk the crew, and then attack a few of them randomly.
But yet, the group doesn't seem to want to leave as of yet. And then the usual decisions are bandied around like call the cops, and my all-time favorite...go "talk them out of trying to kill us". Always a classic. And it always works out for the best when the prey brainstorms to bargain and trade with the killer or er's...who are trying to kill them. Nice. The movie offers up some decent kills. Problem is though, the camerawork isn't very great. Thus, most of the deaths that take place during the films nighttime scenes are wasted as far as impact is concerned.
The movies final scene though is a very disturbing one. And actually leaves the viewer with a few chills. Kind of makes me wonder if they had a real indie gem here, but just bungled 55%/65% of it. Either way it's a shame, this film was intriguing for about 15 minutes. But then it took too many shortcuts and easy ways out of tough story situations. But that's not to say they didn't have a shot.
They DID have a shot here. They, the filmmakers...just couldn't come through in the clutch. If you're a sucker for indie slasher's in the woods, you should check out "Bread Crumbs". But if you like slasher films with above average story, acting, and overall atleast...B+ plot cohesion...then just skip it.
Positives:Good idea for a slasher movie. The story has potential, just never lives up to it. Great ending, and a gory kill or two that're well filmed.
Negatives:Most of the kills aren't very well shot. The story also lacks cohesion and polishing in almost all of the vital areas. The characters are also written as extremely moronic. Even by slasher movie standards.
Overall:Two stars out of four.
